The Theory Test |
| The
theory test was introduced to ensure that new drivers
have a more in depth knowledge of the highway code, how
to deal with hazards, road signs, basic vehicle
maintenance checks. The test consists of 35 multiple
choice questions. To pass you need to answer at least 30
questions correctly. You are allowed 40 minutes to
complete the test. The test is taken using a touch
screen computer.
You must
pass the theory test before you are able to book a
driving test. Your result will be handed to you within
minutes of finishing. To make sure you are ready study
the Highway Code, The DSA Driving Skills book (formally
known as the Driving Manual), The DSA official Theory
Test book. |

|
The Practical Test |
| The
driving test lasts just under 40 minutes and will cover
a wide variety of roads including dual carriageways
(where available), town centre, rural roads, villages
again depending on location of the test centre. You will
be asked to complete 2 manoeuvres.
These
will selected out of the following: Reverse around a
corner, Reverse parking on the road behind a parked car,
Reverse parking into a space at the beginning or end of
the test, turn-in-the-road. You might be asked to
demonstrate an emergency stop when signalled by your
examiner.
Your
driving test can only be booked after passing the theory
test. It should also only be booked when you are at or
very close to test standard. Your driving instructor
will advise you when you reach this standard.

Pass Plus |
|
You’ve passed your
driving test - now you can drive on your own at last. But it
doesn’t stop there; this is just the end of the beginning.
Getting your own car will give you the independence you need.
For a new driver, the cost of insurance can be sky high.
Statistics show
that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the
first two years of passing their test than at any other time in
their driving career. Age doesn’t matter – it’s basically down
to a lack of driving experience. |
