What is the Bowen
Technique? |
The Bowen Technique
is a gentle yet highly effective hands on remedial
therapy which affects the body in ways which promote
healing, pain relief and recovery of energy.
Because the Bowen Technique is such a gentle, subtle and
relaxing treatment, it is suitable for people of all
ages, from baby’s right through to the elderly.
Using fingers and
thumbs, a rolling action is made over muscles, tendons
and ligaments on precise
points of the body. During the treatment there are
periods of rest where the client is left to absorb the
information given in the moves. This gives the body time
to realign itself and make the subtle and fine
adjustments needed to relieve tension, reduce pain and
initiate the heeling process.
There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue
and no force is used or needed.
The Bowen Technique is not a form of massage.
The Bowen Technique
is based on the work of the late Thomas Bowen, born in
1916 in Geelong Australia where he developed a great
interest in massage and body work. By the time he was in
his early 40’s he had established a full time practice
treating many people with the technique he had
developed. It is also believed that Tom initially worked
on greyhounds and race horses having remarkable results.
Before he died in 1982 he passed his knowledge on to his
friends and family who have gone on to practice, develop
and teach his work worldwide.

A Bowen treatment |
|
At the beginning of each treatment there
will be a consultation followed by a Bowen treatment lasting
approximately 45 minutes. Two to three treatments at weekly
intervals are usually sufficient to achieve lasting results,
although further treatments may sometimes be required.
To maintain maximum results, monthly of quarterly top ups are
advised.
The best form of protection you can give is prevention.
Although it is easier to perform the Bowen Technique straight on
to the skin, it can also be performed through light clothing.
It is also advised that other physical therapies are not mixed
with Bowen e.g. massage, physiotherapy, this is to receive
maximum benefit. |
