I hope they were insured!

What do you do if you are making a James Bond film, and your stunt driver crashes a car into a lake before he even reaches the film set? The Aston Martin DBS involved in the crash, valued at over £150,000 appears to be the only one available for filming of the latest Bond movie Quantum Of Solace. Thankfully the driver was rescued immediately and pulled from Lake Garda with minor injuries but despite the fact that heavy rain undoubtedly played its part in the crash, I don’t believe the driver will be delighted with this latest addition to his CV.

AFP reported that the driver “plunged into the picturesque northern lake” around 6am local time. I somehow doubt, with his life flashing before him, that the driver was thinking “nice scenery” as he plunged towards the water but at least he is safe and well. Filming for the movie will soon move onto Spain, and the film itself is due for release later this year.

The New Ian Botham?

Filed under: The things you hear — admin @ 5:19 pm

Occasionally we’ll post up blogs on news from anywhere, not just Milton Keynes with a lighthearted look at some stories that do not normally make the news. These will be posted under “The things you hear”.

I came across an interesting story about a Mr Richard Elloway, who at 61 years-of-age decided to travel from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for a good cause, just like the legendary Ian Botham. Instead of walking however, Mr Elloway decided to use his bus pass and use several local bus services to make the journey. I am still trying to work out what is more painful? Walking all that way or using public transport? The story does not reveal how much he has raised so far but the shock is that it only took him a week and 6 hours to complete the journey.

At the time of writing he is completing the return leg and working his way back down the western side of the country. He said he was treating it as a race “but I appear to be the only one taking part.” Now there’s a shock!

The MK Advertiser wishes Mr Elloway good luck on his return journey and his efforts to raise money for Breaks4kids. Shame on the two hostels that still made him pay for his stay, knowing he was trying to raise money for charity.
